So we built our own. Then kept going until it was good enough to share.
Here's the honest version. I run a cleaning company in San Leandro, CA — Effective Cleaning, LLC. Residential homes, commercial accounts, crews to dispatch, invoices to chase, clients texting at all hours. I also work in emergency medicine. I don't have a lot of patience for software that makes simple things complicated.
We tried QuickBooks ($80/mo — overkill, English-only, clearly made for accountants). We tried Jobber ($49/mo and climbing — fine for one language, but our crew and half our clients speak Spanish). We tried Housecall Pro. We tried the spreadsheet phase. At some point I just started writing code on nights and weekends.
Suite started as an internal tool — invoices, client notes, job scheduling. Then we added estimates, then proposals, then accounting. When it started working well enough that we stopped using anything else, I figured it was worth opening up.
We also built a location in Puerto Vallarta (effectivecleaning.mx), which meant dealing with Mexican tax requirements, peso pricing, and IMSS documentation on top of everything else. That's why Suite handles MX tax logic, MXN pricing, and bilingual client-facing documents — not because we thought it'd be a good market feature, but because we actually needed it.
On the "AI-generated" question — fair thing to wonder. The backend is Python / FastAPI / SQLite. The frontend is vanilla JavaScript, no framework. We run it on infrastructure we own and operate. The architecture decisions came from running an actual business with it, not from a prompt. Does AI help us write and improve code faster? Yes. Does that make the decisions behind it any less real? No.
Field service businesses — the kind where the owner is also the one showing up to jobs. We've focused on cleaning, IT services, and construction so far because those are the industries we know. We're deliberately not trying to be everything to everyone.
